I have a DL580 G4 with a P800 and many disks in a RAID 5 with a spare. One of the drives just failed, but the spare is still listed as spare. Why wasn't it pulled in to the array? The drives are all the same size. Status is all OK except for the one failed drive. Shouldn't the spare be pulled in automatically when a drive fails? It hasn't happened. Trying to figure out how to force it.

SolutionCalled HP. Got the answer. Apparently the spare drive was pulled in. The logical drive status is OK. He said the spare drive will always display as "spare" even if it has been pulled in to the array. When the tech comes out today to swap out the failed drive, the replaced drive will get re-inserted in to the array and the spare drive will go back to being a spare. So, it is working. I just thought the status would change from spare to data, but that isn't the case.
Solved! :)
