Fit a SSD in 2.5" Caddy C/W p812 RAID - will it work?

Hi, I have a DL 385 G7 complete with onboard raid p410 and also a p812 raid controller with no discs yet.  HP discs are rather expensive so I am thinking of buying some other make of 2.5 enterprise sas.  But the other option I have considered is SSD.

I think they will fit in a caddy?  Will they??

And will the raid card see them?

Can anyone advise me on this.

Stephen

Stephen,

I think another SAS Disk will work, provided you use a vendor disk that HP also uses. I would caution you about using  non-HP Branded disks, whether Enterprise-rated or not. You do, most times, get what you pay for. HP Enterprise-rated SAS disks are warranted for three years or more. If the server is covered by HP for service, they could insist that you replace the disks with HP branded disks in order to troubleshoot any disk suspected /related problems.

I know of a number of people using non HP disks in MSA20's and internal SAS backplanes without any problems, but again they are using servers not under warranty or contract with HP for service. HP disks, to be rated as Enterprise, are tested to the extreme.

Just my two cents,
