HP ProLiant ML350 G4p - RAM issues
I am confused by the type of RAM that I can use in my server. The documentation I just found says PC2-3200 400 MHz DDR2 SDRAM CL=3, but the Crucial Scan tool says I can use PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 CL=5. I chatted with a Crucial rep online that says that RAM is backward compatible and that they tested that RAM and it worked. I tried the new RAM but could not turn my server on due to a "critical" light on the front. Once I put the old RAM it everything worked normally. Could someone help give me the right info on this? Do I need to upgrade something on my server before I can install the newer RAM, or will they not work at all?

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G4p - RAM issues
You need to use PC3200 Memory modules with the server. If you install a 3rd party memory it will show red led in front of the server, and the server may not boot.
You can use the following memoy modules with the server
512 MB Advanced ECC PC2-3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM Kit (1 x 512 MB) - 384163-B21
1 GB Advanced ECC PC2-3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM Kit (2 x 512 MB) - 343055-B21
2 GB Advanced ECC PC2-3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM Kit (2 x 1024 MB) - 343056-B21
4 GB Single-Rank Adv. ECC PC2-3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM Kit (2 x 2048 MB) - 343057-B21

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G4p - RAM issues
I appreciate the response. It has helped, although I did purchase HP memory (405476-051) not a 3rd party memory. Would anyone have an article or resource to talk about the different types of RAM? I am wanting to learn more so I do not make the same mistake again.

Hi!
How did it work out? Did you get the server to boot with the 405476-051 Ram? Have 8GB's of them laying around and a ML350G4p whithout any ram at all.. Would be very nice if possible to sort it out one way or another, but most likely it's not.. :-/

Re: HP ProLiant ML350 G4p - RAM issues
Those specific RAM did not work in the ML350. Which was a bummer because I sent them back to the company without knowing there was a 30% restocking fee! Talk about a bad day.
