Is ML10v2 with Pentium G3240 CPU official compatible with vSphere 5.5 (HP Vsphere Image) ?

Hello

Sorry for Offtopic but i have a question about the Ml10 v2. Maybe you can help me.

Is the ML10v2 with the Pentium G3240 CPU  official compatible with vSphere 5.5 (HP Vsphere Image) ?

http://www8.hp.com/emea_middle_east/en/products/proliant-servers/product-detail.html?oid=7876074

On the HP Server Compatibility List there is a note about incompatibility with CPUs other then the E3-1200 series.

  • 18 Includes support for the Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 only

See http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/vmware.aspx#.VhtnWPntmko

Thanks

Regards,

Hi,

First checkout the ML10 V2 QuickSpecs.

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04567802.pdf

It supports the following processors:

Entry Processors

Intel Pentium G3240 (3.1GHz/2-core/3MB/54W)

Base Processors

Intel Core i3-4150 (3.5GHz/2-core/3MB/54W, HT)

Performance Processors

Intel Xeon E3-1220v3 (3.1GHz/4-core/8MB/80W)

The vSphere compatibility matrix tells that only Intel Xeon E3-1200 is supported, which is the "Performance Processors".

You may also check this link.

if you check here

HP Servers Support & Certification Matrices

VMware from HP Certification and Support

http://h17007.www1.hp.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/supportmatrix/vmware.aspx#.Vh0fW7Eo5aQ

it shows the ML10v2 is supported with the following notes

4 Successful installation of the VMware operating system requires either the HP custom ESXi image or an OS image can be created with VMware's ImageBuilder application that has, at minimum, appropriate device drivers to support the boot controller and at least one network device in the server. A list of drivers included in the HP Custom Image is available here.

17 Supports HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere 5.5 version 2.2 and forward

18 Includes support for the Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 only

Ok. Is it possible to change the CPU from the Pentium to the Xeon E3-1220 v3? Does the CPU-Fan which comes with the server out of the box support the higher processor? Are there any restrictions in the Warranty when i change the CPU by myself and not from the HP Support?

Thanks

Ok, is there at least an Service and Maintenance Guide for the ML10v2?

For the predecessor named ML10 there is a Service and Maintenance Guide which describe on Page 41 how to remove and install a Processor.

See http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=5390723&spf_p.tpst=psiContentResults&spf_p.prp_psiContentResults=wsrp-navigationalState%3Daction%253Dmanualslist%257Ccontentid%253DService-and-maintenance%257Clang%253Den&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

The Xeon E3-1220v3 would be the CPU for change.

See http://www8.hp.com/at/de/products/proliant-servers/product-detail.html?oid=8226548&jumpid=reg_r1002_atde_c-001_title_r0002 (Sorry but I dont find the english Website for that Link)

Best Regards,

thanks

Re: Is ML10v2 with Pentium G3240 CPU official compatible with vSphere 5.5 (HP Vsphere Image) ?

I got another Question about this. Is the HP Proliant ML10v2 with Pentium G3240 official Windows Server 2012 R2 certified?

There are no submission Details about it like on other Servers. For Example the ML310e Gen8 v2:
