ML310e G8 with SmartArray B120i doesn't detect 2TB hard drives
Recently I purchased a ProLiant ML310e Gen8. This server comes along with an internal SmartArray B120i and a 500GB SATA hard drive. In addition I got 2x 2TB hard drives (HP 600 GB SAS 507616-B21) which I want to use as a RAID1.
Unfortunately those 2x hard drives aren't detected by the smartarray controller, the 500GB without any problems.
Is it possible that those 2TB drives won't work with the smartarray B120i?
Do I need a different smartarray controllier for those drives?
If so, does the drive bay of the ML310e work with this new controller still?

Re: ML310e G8 with SmartArray B120i doesn't detect 2TB hard drives
Unfortunately I can't tell you why your 2TB hard drives do not work.
But i have a RAID 1 array with two 3TB (WD RED) disks running on a ML310e and the B120i did recognize them correctly. So the B120i should definetely be able to handle 2TB hard drives.
Maybe you could provide a little more information to the community (which hard drive model, can you see the disks in the ACU, ...).

Re: ML310e G8 with SmartArray B120i doesn't detect 2TB hard drives
Hard drives are 2TB SAS
HP model: MB2000FBUCL
P/N: 638521-001
No, the drives aren't detected in the array configuration utility.
Unfortunately I don't have any other computer where I can test those drives.

Re: ML310e G8 with SmartArray B120i doesn't detect 2TB hard drives
The B120i is a SATA controller, it doesn't support SAS drives. If you want to use SAS drives, you will need to add in a "P" series Smart Array controller as they support both SAS and SATA.

Re: ML310e G8 with SmartArray B120i doesn't detect 2TB hard drives
Sorry to jump in but i have a similar problem with same server except the hdd is 3tb which the raid sees but in windows server 2008 std it will only allow me to create a 2tb partition the balance 700gb is available but i cannot create or do anything as all options are greyed out fyi for the 2tb to be seen it has to be setup in the raid first even if its a single drive
