Newbie question about server hard disks...

We have 4 new hard disks for  our HP Proliant ML370G5.  Our plan is to plug them and create 2 new RAID 1 arrays.

My questions are:

1)  Do  I need to turn off the server to plug them? If It were possible  I would like to avoid to turn off the server.

2) What tool do I have to use to create these new RAID 1 arrays?

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Re: Newbie question about server hard disks...

hi

1)

yes you can add the 4 new drives while the system is running

2)

use ACU (array configuration utility) for setup

if you have a windows system, go to start->all programs-> hp system tools

3)

if you cannot find ACU install the SPP (service pack proliant) - chose at lease the ACU utility

you can find the SPP here:  www.hp.com/go/spp

4)

once you have started ACU select your controller.

now click on the controller (top most  entry)

select "create array"

select 2 of you 4 disks and save

now select create logical drive and select raid1.

repeat the steps for the second raid1 array.

best regards
