Problèms with multi CPU and VmWare 64bits on DL160 G5

So I had 2 DL160 G5 with initialy 1 CPU (spare : 457876-001).
Next I buy 2 new CPU in order to add one in each server. So I take exactly the same reference than the one I already have (457876-001).
But VmWare ESXi 4.1 say me that the 2 processors of one server are not identical and so the 64bits OS are not supported under virtual machine.
So I decided to move the "old processors" on one machine and the "new processors" on the other.
But now, the server with the new processor don't boot but stay in the HP blanc screen. The other server is working well.
The BIOS version of server is the original one, I didn't do an upgrade.

Always buy CPUs in matching pairs.

Finaly that is what I have. 2 pairs of processors.
The problem is that one pair prevent the server to boot.

Verify the second pair are matching. If not, return them and get a second pair. Did you apply the firmware to the server board and verify they work with your server board revision?

The new processors are the same as the old one. They are all Intel Xeon E5405 @ 2Ghz but the old are family : 06 Model : 17 Stepping : 06 and the new are family : 06 Model : 17 Stepping : a
I didn't apply any firmware update on the server but as the old one are working well on it I normaly do not need to make an upgrade.

Hi,

Try updating the system BIOS. Processors with same spped can be mixed, but i think processors should be placed in such order based on the stepping. Just try Higher stepping in Processor 0 and check. I think updating BIOS will help better.
