Smart Array 6402 PCI-X in a DL380 G2 3.3 volt PCI slot

Does anyone know if a Smart Array 6402 PCI-X card work in a 3.3 volt PCI slot on a DL380 G2?

In the Technical Specifications section located on the following web page http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11587_div/11587_div.html#Technical%20Specifications
It states that the Smart Array 6402 controller is compatible with a 3.3 volt PCI slot.
The DL380 G2 has 2 x 64-bit/66 MHz Hot Plug 3.3 volt PCI slots. How ever on the quickspecs of this server it does not list this as being a compatible controller.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is definitely not supported. In HP world in most cases it simply means 'will not work'.

Nop...You will need to get one of these:

Smart Array 532 Controller
225338-B21

Smart Array 5302/128 Controller
283552-B21

Smart Array 5304/256 Controller
283551-B21

Smart Array 5312 Controller

You should check with HP whether your DL380 G2 can support the later models of array controllers (641, 642, 6402 or 6404). Unfortunately, the compatibility table doesn't list the DL380 G2, but based on the QuickSpecs for these U320 capable array controllers; they list the following requirement under the Technical Specifications:

PCI: 3.3 volt CPI slot compatibility only

According to the QuickSpecs this server, it has two 64-bit/66 MHz Hot Plug PCI slots capable of supporting 3.3 Volt or universal cards. That sounds like a match, but there may be some other requirement that your server doesn't meet, so I would double-check with HP before proceeding.

Thanks for the reply Scott. That's the same info I cam up with and have since deployed a Smart Array 6402 PCI-X in a DL380 G2 and attached a MSA30.
It's all working joyously!
Thankyou everyone for taking the time to reply to my question

SO it worked for you.. I am looking at doing the same thing. I do have a question. Even though it worked.... are you getting ultra 320 speeds out of it?
Thanks
