Smartstart 8.0 + Firmware 8.0 on one USB key?

I'm responsible for a number of Proliant servers. We keep stacks of Smartstart and Firmware discs for support, and over time these discs either become outdated or get scratched up or whatever, and they are just inconvenient. I've recently started tinkering with the USB Key utility, and so far I like what I see.

Is there a way to make one key that has both the Smartstart and Firmware images together? I'd like to be able to just pick the one I want off the initial boot menu.

hi

well that is not just put them and boot and there is no HP utility to do it

do more research I found some information but try using words like "multiboot DVD USB" and so on

I have done it but it is a good idea to avoid a lot of CDs

After looking at the internals of both .iso images, I don't think this would be very difficult to accomplish. I think it will mainly be rename a few files and edit the boot menu. I hope to try it out over the next few days

Hi Rikk,

An alternative might be a PXE server, which may or may not be suitable for your setup.

Re: Smartstart 8.0 + Firmware 8.0 on one USB key?

Since the SmartStart CD is already running the same OS as the firmware CD is there any way to simply run the firmware update from a menu or command line while booted to SmartStart?

I got side stracked and was never able to finish looking at this. what I was going to try and do was combine the 2 CD's and make a menu selection during boot to run eith SS or FW. re-spinning an ISO image with the bits and adding the commands into isolinux.cfg shouldn't be to hard to do

The HP USB Key Utility makes this a snap. You can have multiple HP images on the same USB key. I have SmartStart 64 bit, SmartStart 32 bit, and Firmware all under one roof. I didn't have to do any major work on it at all. With a larger USB key like 8GB or larger, I can put 2 or 3 versions of Windows kits on the same key and have a complete system build tool on one flash drive.

"The HP USB Key Utility makes this a snap" Yes it does, but the utility did not function the same back in 2008 when this thread was started.
