Updating DL360G6 Storage Controller Firmware
Hello.
I've got a HP DL380G6 E5530 2.40 GHz running ESXi 5.5.0. Build 1623387.
ESX is currently giving a warning that the firmware for the storage controller is at 6.00.
So I'm trying to use SPP 0605.106 to update this to 6.64 which seems to be the current flavour. Specifically CP026508.
Initially I try this online but after an inventory it says everything on the node is current after adding this to the baseline.
I've tried a reboot on the grounds that maybe it was installed but not rebooted and applied. Still the same.
Next I've tried offline via the USB boot and chose interactive update.
It then seemed to hang on the HP splash screen with a cursor for an hour and a half.
I could see the activity on the drives changing, almost as if doing an inventory.
In the end I had to power off and restart as the maintenance window had passed.
Two questions.
Why would the inventory say all firmware is current?
Would it normally take longer than an hour and a half to run this offline?
There is an option to run this directly via command line on the server OS but the two options above would seem to be the obvious first choice.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards.

Re: Updating DL360G6 Storage Controller Firmware
I recently updated a G6 server with an smart array P410i to 6.64 using the SPP 2015.06, so I know it works.
Sounds like trouble with your USB device. Did you use the USB tool 2.0 to create the USB key drive?
It usually took only a few minutes to boot the SPP, seems to be faster than earlier versions.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating DL360G6 Storage Controller Firmware
Thanks Torsten.
That is a good point. Certainly using the same SPP version. However on the first try online I mounted the ISO and ran it from that. It did comeback to say all firmware was up to date.
When I created the key I had issues with the USB creator and had to run it in W2K compatability mode to get it to work as administrator. I was using version 1.7.
It's possible the key wasn't right somehow.
I'll give it another go and try using that online.
Many thanks.

Re: Updating DL360G6 Storage Controller Firmware
Version 1.7 is too old, the image is too large for this version. Version 2.0 is included in the SPP itself, use this.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Updating DL360G6 Storage Controller Firmware
1.7 nor 1.8 can create SPP 2015.xx.
You can download USB utility 2.0 from HP.com (djust look for a Gen 9 sever and Windows 2012)
I downloaded 2.0 1 week ago.
