Upgrading P410

Hi all, I have a ML330 Proliant fitted with a P410 raid controller and have been told that if I want to configure RAID 5 I need to add BBWC to my controller, I've googled for information but am still unsure exactly what I need, is the memory in the battery pack ? or does the memory have to be added to the controller and then the battery attached to the controller via a cable ?

Re: Upgrading P410

OPen the quickspec and the related option tab:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/productbulletin.html#spectype=worldwide&type=html&docid=13201

HP 512MB P-Series Battery Backed Write Cache Upgrade       462967-B21

other options are

HP 512MB Flash Backed Write Cache      534916-B21

HP 1GB Flash Backed Cache                        534562-B21

The version with the battery can hold the cache contents up to 3 days in case of power failure, the flash backed version wites the cache contents in a special flash on the module, so this data is safe in case of a power fail.

NOTE: A minimum or 256 MB cache and battery (or flash+capacitor) are required to enable RAID 5

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Upgrading P410

There is no driver, the cache modul is handled by the controller firmware.

Hope this helps!
