Windows OS Support - ML350G6 Server
Hi,
I would like to install 32bit OS on ML350G6 server. Is there a constraint in installing a 32-bit OS on Server?
Will there be any performance degradation on my server?
Thanks & Regards,
Arul

Re: Windows OS Support - ML350G6 Server
Hi Arul,
Proliant Servers are based on Intel x86 and AMD architecture.
Intel x386 was orginally 32 bit architecture but with the latest enhancement is capable of handing 32 bit x86 and 64bit x86 architecture.
AMD is 64 bit architecture and support both.
For more information on architecture visit Industry Standard Server Technology Communications website.
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/technology/whitepapers/index.html
Check the Proliant OS compatibility matrix for more info
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/software/index.html
Server performance will vary, depending on the model and operating systems that you choose.
If operating system is as per OS compatibility list then there should not be any performance issue as it is already tested by HP.
Hope this helps,
thanks
Aftab

Re: Windows OS Support - ML350G6 Server
Hi!
If your application has a version that can run natively on 64-bit, then I would wonder a lot why you want to run 32-bit? Only reason I can see to run 32-bit is because you have something that only works on 32-bit OS?
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/windows/index.html
Windows 2003 (without the x64) is supported so 32-bit is OK on the Ml350 G6.
