X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
Hi
We have recently moved to DL380 Gen9 servers from Gen8's. We use them in a manufaturing enviroment
with our own propriotary PCI-e cards. The cards functioned fine until we installed
BIOS firmware P89 V1.5 (07/20/2015) in “HP Service Pack for ProLiant 2015.10.0 (v10.0_1)”
We are now experiencing the following error during POST.
- HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 servers may hang at approx 83% during POST.
- "X64 Exception Type 02 – NMI Detected" error displayed on (Post)
Note: The above issues may occur in either UEFI or Legacy boot modes.
Does anyone have any input on where I should begin in finding the cause/solution??
Thanks for any help on where to begin ( and no, picking a new card is not a option.)

Re: X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
Why not trying the latest BIOS?
Version:1.52_11-10-2015 (A) (3 Dec 2015)
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
I tryed the the new ifrimware patch "Version:1.52_11-10-2015 (A) (3 Dec 2015)" and I got the same result!
I also changed the firmware on the card to one that I made that had the most recent PCI-e core and had no
luck. Since I am in control of the firmware and driver on this add on card, I am hoping that someone can
help me figure out how I can debug the error and make anuy corrections in hardware/ driver for this
device. BTW I am using a PLDA PCI-e core in a xilinx fpga for the pci-e interface.

Re: X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
Hi Frocco,
I got the same problem as you.
I have a new ML350Gen9 where specific board with xilinx pcie 1X plda interface stop to work with gen9 (X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected).
With Gen8 this board works fine.
Did you find a solution?
Regards

Re: X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
I did not, I am still actively looking for a solution. The core is no longer suppoerted by PLDA and I cannot get any support from
HP as to what condition causes this error!

Re: X64 Exception Type 02-NMI Detected after bios firmware update
Try to change tx line capacitors for pci-express (and if exist clock line capacitors). We suggest if your own propriotary PCI-e cards work in G8 the "shape' of signal may cause of this message. If posible get eye diagram of tx and clock signals.
Best regards.
P.S. Sorry for my english.
