further to my previous thread..can i safely remove the 9g drive and not replace a [blank caddy]or is it neccessary for the blank to be inserted..ps i do not have another blank caddy

The blank provides for proper airflow thoughout the server, without it in place, you can have problems with overheating.

That said, if you have a colder than normal environment, you can probably get away with not having the blank, though I do not recommend it.

It is not necessary for proper "physical" operation.

The blanks do provide electromagnetic shielding as well.
