NetRaid MediaErrors

Hello

We use a Lr3 Server with a Raid 5 system and now we have 5-10 MediaErrors per day.

How can I change this drive. We shut down the server and changed the drive. After the reboot we can not rebuild the new drive. The status is not failed, cann't rebuild. Finish and now.

Re: NetRaid MediaErrors

How often do you run consistancy checks on your arrays?

The drive will not rebuild if there are errors on any of the other disks in the array. You will probably have to do a wipe and restore from back up.

Re: NetRaid MediaErrors

If the drive was online when you shut down, then you cannot rebuild. The drive has to be failed in order to start a rebuild. You can manually fail the drive from express tools, or you can fail it by pulling it out while the server is on.

Re: NetRaid MediaErrors

Yes, the status was online, not failed. But this drive has a lot of media errors.

I will try to fail the drive and change them.

Thank for this hint.

Are MediaErrors hardware-faults or software/consistancy-faults handled by the raidsystem?

The errors are only on one drive, so i think it is a hardwareerror.

Re: NetRaid MediaErrors

Media errors do indicate problems on the disk surface. A few errors on a disk is no big deal, but a few new errors every day does say a disk is going bad.
