Telnet window closes the PPM server

Hi,

we have a PPM 8.1 installed on windows and whenever we start PPM using telnet PPM starts successfully, but once the telnet window is closed automatically PPM also goes down.

Any command to be paramter or command to be run to make this service run as required.

Thanks

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

Hi,

Are you starting it using kStart.sh?

Because as soon as the shell session associated with the telnet logon terminates all processes it has started (including PPM) will be killed.

Use the service method rather:

net start <service_name>

This will not terminate when the session terminates.

Kind Regards

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

Another approach would be, to start the PPM server from Windows Services.

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

@philipwood
yes i am using kstart.sh to start the PPM.But once I close the telnet window, PPM also comes down.
I would require to keep the PPM up and running eventhough we close the telnet window

@Utkarsh, this would not help since, the log rotation does not work, if I start the PPM using windows service.

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

A common method in UNIX environments to deal with this situation is to start the process in the background:

./kStart.sh <parameters> &

This is just something you can try. We do not run PPM on a Windows server so I have no way to verify whether this works in this case.

Try this...

nohup sh <Path till bin>/kStart.sh

./kStart.sh <parameters> &
PPM went down after closing the telnet window

nohup sh <Path till bin>/kStart.sh
got this error while running the above one, bash: /cygdrive/e/Kintana/NetPack/cygnus/cygwin32/bin/nohup: bad interpreter: No

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

Hi shijubch,

nohup is the best command but don't run with cygwin. Could you please try below command and close cygwin session:
start /b sh ./kStart.sh

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

Thanks to all,

I just have the hotfix given from HP ,so planning to apply that patch.

The issue with telnet start/stop is that whenever the telnet window is closed after the start the PPM, the windows closes the connection and in turn brings down the PPM.

Re: Telnet window closes the PPM server

HP would provide a hotifix for this issue. It is change in knta_loggin.jar. you would require to change it, and all works fine
