How HP Enterprise Security Products confronts the security industry’s communication gap

‎06-30-2014 09:00 AM - edited ‎06-11-2015 09:39 AM

Two of the greatest security challenges that organizations face are discovery of vulnerabilities and communication of results.  One way HP Enterprise Security Products (HP ESP) is confronting these issues, is via our product integrations, such as ArcSight and TippingPoint. Bringing together different security technologies to create a holistic method of security that realistically deals with how attacks occur in the real world is the driving impetus and ultimate goal behind what we do here at HP ESP.

Put simply, integrated security products bolster each others' performance by correlating results and providing the means to institute dynamic responses to new attacks.  It’s not that organizations who are hacked don’t have products in place – it’s often simply that those products don’t communicate and require manual correlation. Security products are by their nature only as effective as their configuration and the ‘intelligence’ that has been baked into them.  They are also only as effective as what they can ‘discover’ or are told. Security products that can ‘communicate’ vulnerability and incident information are much more effective at separating the security wheat from the innocuous chaff of day to day operations and thereby more effective at doing what they were designed to do--prevent successfull attacks.

This is the first in a series of articles and videos detailing specific HP ESP product integrations and how this aligns with our vision for the future.  The following video examines the strengths of an integrated security approach, and how products that communicate can provide better means of detecting and remediating emerging threats, via the integrations between ArcSight and TippingPoint technologies.
