What does it take to create a security operations capability?

‎07-09-2014 10:20 AM - edited ‎06-09-2015 11:26 AM

Attention SOC & Incident Response Managers, Program Owners, Team Leaders, and Information Security Executives! At HP Protect 2014 in Washington D.C., we have an opportunity for you to learn what it takes to create a successful enterprise security operations capability.

At the “Security Operations Workshop” at HP Protect 2014, you can join us for an intensive look into what it takes to develop an internal security monitoring and incident response capability—covering the aspects of a successful security operations capability along with real-world examples of what works…and what doesn’t.

  • Leverage consultants with deep experience in enterprise security operations to share insights on how the people, process, and technology implementation of your security operations should work to meet underlying business objectives.
  • Understand the staffing models, training plans, key SOC metrics and incident preparedness needed to ensure your intrusion analysts succeed.
  • Identify the processes and procedures critical to effective security operations.
  • Understand the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) infrastructure and related technology to ensure attacks are identified, analyzed, and remediated in a cost-effective manner.

Offered as a special discounted-price engagement for our customers, it’s a 1.5 day workshop with an opportunity to network with some of the industry’s best security experts while learning the ins and outs of making your security organization successful.

The workshop begins directly following the HP Protect conference: Thursday, September 11 starting at noon and all day Friday, September 12. Register now! Space is limited!

Hi Kerry, this looks like a great workshop.  Is this comparable to the SOC Primer workshop that the HP SIOC team offers?

I'm looking for opportunities at HP Protect to learn more about the 14 processes and 36 procedures that help build a mature Security Operations Center.  Will this workshop just touch on them briefly, like in the State of Operations whitepaper?  Or does it get more in-depth?

Thanks in advance!

This workshop at HP Protect will be a condensed version of our SOC Primer workshop that we offer at customer sites throughout the year. The great thing about this version is you will be in class with others from security organizations that you can share stories with the benefit of learning from each other.

The workshop will go into the processes and procedures in more depth than the State of Security Operations whitepaper. It will cover everything from gaining organization support and defining the mission to staffing schedules and shift turn-over procedures. It is definitely a lot of great information packed into a day and a half.
