What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

Hello!

I am looking for the RunTestSet Utility that is supported by ALM 11.52.

I have found the version for QC10,and QC/ALM 11 in this KB Article:

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM1395031

Is this version supported by ALM 11.52?

Where can I get the ALM 11.52 RunTestSet Utility?

Title:   How to schedule test sets to run periodically for Quality Center
Document ID:   KM191021
Product:   Quality Center
Version:
OS:   Unspecified
Updated:   2013-Jul-12
Summary:   How to schedule test sets to run periodically for Quality Center

TestDirector for Quality Center (TD for QC) enables users to create sets of tests (test sets) and plan their execution: start time, planned host or host group, and dependency. But, there is no option to schedule these test sets to run periodically. Currently, TD for QC does not have a built-in test set scheduler.
Please refer to this article if using TestDirector 7.6 or 8.0:
Document ID KM304985 - How to schedule Test Sets to run periodically for TestDirector 7.6 or 8.0

 Solution

Example RunTestSet application that works with Microsoft Scheduler for QC
The existing OTA API enables you to run external tools that can execute any test set on any host. An example RunTestSet application (with Visual C++ sourcecode) is supplied as part of proposed solution.

Any scheduler application can be used to launch RunTestSet application, for example Microsoft Scheduler (part of Windows installation).

The example Run TestSet schedulers are attached below.

- CPT38343A.zip is QC 8.2 SP1 TestSet Scheduler Solution

- CPT38343B.zip is QC 9.0 TestSet Scheduler Solution

- RunTestSetScheduler.zip is an updated version for QC 9.x and QC 10.  There is an updated TestSet Scheduler Solution.doc as well.

- CPT38343C.zip is the TestSet Scheduler Solution complying with QC10 and compiled with Visual Studio 2005. It also contains a release working with QC10 in the "Release" folder.

- CPT38343D.zip is the TestSet Scheduler Solution complying with ALM11 and compiled with Visual Studio 2005. It also contains a release working with ALM11 in the "Release" folder.

The downloads include ZIP files that contain:
1. Console program
2. How to use Document
3. Source (VC++ over OTA API)
4. For QC10 and ALM11, release of a build.

Notes:

•The readme file indicates that /h and /l are optional. This is not exactly correct. You will need to select one in order to execute the test set. This option determines where the test set will be executed.
•Note that this has been updated recently to contain another command line function to have mail notification if a test fails (only if a test fails).
•Support for test set folder path is provided with this version.
The utility has not been QA'd by HP/Mercury and is NOT supported. Full source is provided with this utility. Feel free to modify the source to suit your specific needs.

Test this out for 11.5.

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

Is this for use when invoking UFT tests via ALM?

Thakn you for this information. Right now I do not have a test environment to test this in 11.5, so I am not sure this will be approved. Maybe I can build a VM and test it there...

Thakn you, John!

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

Hi Laura,

Correct QTP via ALM. Yes, please test it out and let us know. This seems to be the last version created by HP this past July.

Anytime!

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

another question, John...

In KB Article here -http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM1395031

It talks of a RunTestUtility.

Is this the same utility that you are talking about, TestDirector?

Or are these different utilities?

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

What version of ALM/QC are you using?

What is the OS, service Pack, and bit level of the system where you are running the Utility?

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

I just wanted to know Is this "exe" file is the latest version?

Actually while running this utility i am successful till message "Starting test set execution..." After this message program pause for long time and suddendly exit from DOS prompt.

I have UFT and ALM installed on same machine and im running tests on localhost. Manually Im able to run those test sets using 'Run Test Set' button.

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

If you don't even know where the file came from, how can we possibly tell you if it is the latest version of that file?  :-\

Are you able to get any error information from your use of the EXE? Does it produce a log file? have you checked the Event Logs for your system? Have you looked at the logs that are produced on the ALM server to see if they have any helpful information?

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

hi Trudy,

It seems you some knowledge about this program "runstestset.exe".

In our company we have got a problem (at takes too much time) in submitting all hour testset's in timeslots.

Do you know whether runstestset.exe is suitable for submitting testsets in timeslots? We are using HP-ALM 11.52 and UFT 12.02 build 3002. And could you tell me how or where i can download this program?

thnx very much,

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

The program is offered in an HPE knowledge base article. You must have a support contract to access it.

https://softwaresupport.hpe.com/group/softwaresupport/search-result/-/facetsearch/document/KM1395031

Note that HPE doesn't actually support this utility.

If you don't have a support contract, you can access this alternate version of the tool posted by another user.

http://relevantcodes.com/executing-qc-testset-via-ota-api-qcruntestset/

What do you mean by submitting testsets in timeslots? Are you talking about scheduling testsets to run unattended at a particular time?

The program itself does not allow you to schedule the tests to run at a particular time. What it allows you to do is trigger the execution of tests through the Open Test Architecture API. If you want to schedule that trigger at a particular time, you need separate software for that. I use Microsoft Task Scheduler to set what time RunTestSets runs, and in that way am able to "schedule" tests to run at a particular time.

Alternately, you might want to explore the Lab Management feature of HP ALM. That lets you set the schedule within HP ALM itself.

Re: What is the latest version of the RunTestSet Utility?

hi Trudy,

thnx for your quick answer.

We are looking for a way to submit (5 times a week) our regression test. At this moment there are about 10 testsets and that number is growing. There exists a certain connecton between these testsets, so some testsets could be executed parallel on different testhost's and other testsets should be performed after another one. These are functional testsets! The duration of all these testset's differs. To submit these test's in timeslots with the correct starting time and duration (before we are leaving work to go home) cost too much time.

That's the reason i am looking for an instrument that helps me with this job.

I understand runtestset.exe is not able to start a testset in a specific timeslot. Using something like Microsoft Time Scheduler does not help me, because my own laptop will be shutdown when I am leaving for my dinner at home.

Maybe it is possible to create a BPT to start a DOS-box to run runtestset.exe and start a certain testset, these BPT keeps running and waiting till the next testset should be started and after all the testsets are started this 'controller' BPT will stop. This will cost me one extra testhost every night.

Or do tou have another suggestion?

Ben

a better way to do it (start testset's)

In the Build Verification chapter In ALM you are able to create a Build Verification Suite and attach serveral testset's to it. A BFS could be started within a timeslot.

This is a very easy way to start several testset's in one timeslot.
