Adversaries continue to specialize and share intelligence—showing an unprecedented sophistication in cyber attacks.  They’re able to obtain the most sensitive data and easily disrupt critical enterprise functions.

Today, HP today made public the results from the 4th annual study on the cost of cybercrime—a global study conducted by the Ponemon Institute and sponsored by HP Enterprise Security Products.

cybercrime infographic.pngThe 2013 Cost of Cyber Crime study reveals some daunting numbers for U.S. companies.  These figures represent the differences from the initial report, conducted in 2009, to the 2013 report:

  • 78 percent: The increase in cybercrime costs
  • $11.6M: The average annualized cost of cybercrime
  • 130 percent: The increase in time that it takes to resolve a cyberattack
  • 122: The average number of successful attacks that organizations experienced per week
  • 32: The average number of days it takes to resolve a cyberattack

Although the numbers are daunting, the study also confirmed that advanced security intelligence tools [such as security information and event management (SIEM), network intelligence systems, and big data analytics], diminish impact, saving an average of $4M annually per organization.

With industry-leading products from ArcSight, Fortify and TippingPoint, HP delivers a comprehensive security portfolio that enables businesses to take a proactive approach to security that integrates information correlation, deep application analysis and network-level defense mechanisms.  With HP’s Enterprise Security Products, businesses are better able to disrupt the adversary, manage risk and extend their security capabilities to better protect their organizations.

The complete findings from the study are available via webcast on October 29and 30.
