O/S Comparison - Critical Updates and Vulnerabilities

Can anyone point me in the right direction for any recent reserch that compares OpenVMS
versus its competitors, including Microsoft offerings.

I need a slide that details easily how stable and secure PpenVMS is.

Many thanks

AFAIK, there is no such published comparison, beyond generic comparisons of aggregate CERT bug counts and similar.

Contact me offline for some background.

Depending on the value of "recent" see the report on how OpenVMS came to be banned from DefCon.

Take my word: OpenVMS is stable and secure. :-)

Why you ask? What are the requirements?

Hi,

The Solaris and AIX functionality comparison with VMS can be found in the below link. May be helpful.

Re: O/S Comparison - Critical Updates and Vulnerabilities

There exist documented malware exploits that have targeted VMS.

There are known vulnerabilities and security weaknesses.

There are issues with passing security audits with the web-facing VMS tools. (eg: You likely won't pass a PCI audit without additional security measures.)

Is VMS secure? Probably. This if you have a firewall, and if you manage your servers and stay current on updates and security monitoring and settings, and particularly if you're a low-value target. One that nobody cares enough to attack.

If your servers comprise a high-value financial, political or military target akin to what some recent malware was aimed at and if you're depending on opinions garnered in this forum for your security policy, well, you're toast.

Thanks, folks, for the responses. Sorry for the delay.

I needed it to give a simple comparison between VMS and the not-so-secure other Operating Systems in use within our organisation.
