Problem running CDSA DES sample program.

System is bl860c running OpenVMS 8.3-1h1.

I am trying to compile and run the DES sample program supplied in SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP.EXAMPLES.CDSA.DES].

I have followed the instructions meticulously, (see attachment), however when I try to execute the command and encrypt a file, I get

Has anyone seen this before? Note the procedure works on my V8.4 node, unfortunately I am not prepared to test it on any of my other V8.3-1H1 nodes incase there are consequences.

This blade has been through a long history of changes and upgrades and likely reconfigurations, and had an earlier and pre-integration V2.3-306 release of CDSA installed.

See if a clean install of OpenVMS V8.3-1H1 works here. Mount a scratch disk on the blade itself or elsewhere in the configuration, load VMS and C and log in as SYSTEM (you don't need networking or most anything else), and see if the example works.

$rename cdsa.dir save_cdsa.dir !just in case
$create/dir [CDSA]

Mount your OpenVMS v8.3-1h1 dvd - in my case the dvd is $3$dqa0

$backup $3$DQA0:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON.CDSA...]*.*;* SYS$COMMON:[CDSA...]
$@sys$startup:cdsa$upgrade
$set def sys$common:[SYSHLP.EXAMPLES.CDSA.DES]
$des :== $sys$common:[SYSHLP.EXAMPLES.CDSA.DES]des.exe

After a week of tearing hair and making Dan's life a misery, the cause of the problem has been determined.

It appears that executing the JAVA$60_SETUP
command file is what breaks the DES stuff, (see attachment).

Dan is still working on the specifics.
