password issue

HI ,

I am facing one passwd change issue.

one user requested me to reset his password on server xxx54. We have to login unix jumpstation(xxx1) & from there we do ssh xxx54.i have changed the passwd . & user able to login with that passwd. Now when he is trying to login (from jumpstn to ssh xxx54) with his new password it is showing "permission denied , please try again".

i have checked that his account is not locked.

# /usr/lbin/getprpw mgagne
uid=1099, bootpw=NO, audid=63, audflg=1, mintm=0, maxpwln=-1, exptm=0, lftm=0, spwchg=Mon Sep 26 11:16:52 2011, upwchg=-1, acctexp=-1, llog=-1, expwarn=0, usrpick=DFT, syspnpw=DFT, rstrpw=DFT, nullpw=DFT, admnum=-1, syschpw=DFT, sysltpw=DFT, timeod=-1, slogint=Sun Sep 25 14:34:34 2011, ulogint=-1, sloginy=-1, culogin=-1, uloginy=-1, umaxlntr=-1, alock=NO, lockout=0000000
#

So again i reset his password & he is using that password which i sent. But he want to change the password for security reason.

os 11.31

model ia64 hp server BL860c

Ani

Re: password issue

Hi,

ask the user if he uses strange characters or a very long passwd
(maybe more than 8 characters?).

Re: password issue

Hi,

Please do ssh like "ssh -vvv <hostname>". That will give some error messages.

Then, check with other existing users. whether they can able to login with after changing the password.

check the syslog.log with the username.

If other users facing same problem, need to bounce the trusted configuration.
