HP Moonshot: A milestone in Hyperscale

The new age of connected devices is completely changing the way enterprises design, deploy and manage servers. This week HP disrupted the industry by announcing the new HP Moonshot System and providing an architecture that demonstrates and embodies that change.  Ubuntu is the only OS integrated and fully operational across the complete Moonshot System, covering x86 and ARM chip technologies, delivering scale out innovation in partnership with HP.

 

Canonical has been involved in the development of HP Project Moonshot from its inception. As a founding member of HP’s Pathfinder Innovation Ecosystem, Canonical recognized the emerging Hyperscale trend early on.  We understood that advances in chip design, software and networking are enabling a new paradigm of massive scale out technology and have made investments over the last five years to support and optimise for low power chips from both ARM and x86. 

 

Building on the already strong scale out capabilities of Ubuntu Server, our Hyperscale team continues to develop key features in Ubuntu meeting the needs of Hyperscale customers.  The reality is that today, Ubuntu – with its cross-architecture scale out capabilities, Landscape Systems Management, and Juju orchestration tools – is perfectly suited to support Hyperscale requirements across the management and orchestration layers of the OS.
