Re: SG Versions and Online cluster reconfiguration

Shalom,

11.20 is the latest SG version. The higher the digits after the 11. the newer it is.

2. Most cluster reconfiguration can be done with the cluster up. cmcheckconf/cmapplyconf
The first step lets you spot mistakes that would whack your cluster before you whack your cluster. With properly configured environment, the only thing that would require a cluster outage would be upgrading SG itself.

There is no difference between the versions here, they all support new packages being rolled out and most modifications hot. The reason for existence of the product.

3. Irrelevant. See previous paragraphs.

Re: SG Versions and Online cluster reconfiguration

Hello again.

In case your are interested one of the key features of 11.20 SG maybe 11.19 also, is the ability to have package dependencies.

PackageA can depend on PackageB being running.

Makes taking care of start up order and other issues much easier.

Re: SG Versions and Online cluster reconfiguration

Q1 you have the answer to - 11.20 is the latest release.

Q2 and Q3 are covererd in the relevant "Managing Serviceguard" manuals available at:

http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs

To see which manual "edition" is associated with which release of Serviceguard, look at the bottom of the "publishing history" section of the "Managing Serviceguard" manual. So for example the 19th edition of the manual is for Serviceguard 11.20 (I never understood why they didn't just line up the editions with the release numbers).

In each manual, if you go to Chapter 7 "Cluster and Package Maintenance", you will find tables which show what can be changed online and what needs to be done offline.

So for example, for 11.20, in this manual:

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02835426/c02835426.pdf

Table 13 on p281 describes cluster changes
Table 14 on p305 describes package changes

Re: SG Versions and Online cluster reconfiguration

The supported versions of Serviceguard are identified in this document:
http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs ->> HP Serviceguard >> HP Serviceguard/SGeRAC/Storage Management Suite/Serviceguard Manager Plug-in Compatibility and Feature Matrix, October 2010

What can be done while the cluster/package is running:
If you have access to the knowledge database, search for a document titled "HPUX Serviceguard - permissible online cluster and package modifications"

If you do not have access to this document, tables 7-1 and 7-2 in "Managing Serviceguard" manual review cluster and package changes that can be performed online.
However make certain you are looking at the correct manual for the version of Serviceguard.
A.11.17 capabilities are documented in the 13th edition of Managing Serviceguard.
A.11.18 - look at the 15th edition.
A.11.19 - look at 17th edition.
A.11.20 - look at 18th edition.
