EVA 5000 to 8000 Upgrade

has anyone been through a EVA5000 to 8000 upgrade with data on the array? How did it go, what to watch for, is it even worth the risk?

Re: EVA 5000 to 8000 Upgrade

I was able to do a test migration OK and will be doing a production-migration in the coming few weeks.
I would STRONGLY suggest you examine your hardware/software and run those by HP Support.
Here's what I did:
==============
1. Ensure proper windows service pack level installed.
a. Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or Win2k-SP4

2. Install Secure Path 4.0C-SP2-1a (Service Pack 2-1a)

3. Update QLogic or Emulex drivers
a. Windows 2003 Server: QLogic 9.1.0.18 HBA Storport Driver
b. Windows 2000 Server: QLogic 9.1.0.13 SCSI Port

4. Install HP MPIO v1.00.02 on all Microsoft servers.

5. Power off Server and unplug power cord

6. Un-present Virtual Disk to Server-Host on EVA5000

7. Stop Data Replication from EVA5000

8. Present Virtual Disk on EVA8000 to corresponding host
a. Navigate to the Virtual Disk, General tab. Under Attributes section, change Write Protect to No (otherwise, the EVA will not allow any writes to take place)

9. Plug in Server power cord and power on

10. Verify you can see disks in Disk Management and in Windows Explorer
a. You may need to rename the text label of the drive from ├в Local Disk├в to ├в Data_01├в , etc.

Re: EVA 5000 to 8000 Upgrade

The migration was successful. Glitches were hardware on the server side, cables not plugged in.
Make sure you shut down server, wait at least 15 minutes, stop data replication, unpresent host from the EVA5000 then present to EVA8000 (having installed MPIO & MPIO Manager), and change the write protect to NO.
Good luck.
