HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

We ordered a HP Storeageworks D2700-AJ941A and I have a few questions:

1) Our SAN has 12TB. We have four DL 380 HP Servers where we want to allocate 3TB per server. WHat do I need to get this done? Is there any manuals that discuss carving the space?

2) Do I need a controller to manage the space on the four servers or can I use the SAS connection to connect the SAN to each server?

3) What part number would I need for the controller on the Server?

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

The D2700 is just a disk enclosure with SAS connectors, made for connecting a single server in single or dual domain. Configuration will be done via ACU from the server. The chassis can only be "shared" by using SAS switches in a blade environment. It is not a "SAN" at all.

Sounds like you need a P2000 array ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

Ok. So if I have 4 servers, is there a way for me to connect the D2700 to all 4 or is the answer no. It only connects to ONE server?

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

You could get another server and use it as a file server and then present storage from that server to the other servers. If you want a SAN - do look into the P2000.

No, you cannot connect the same D2700 to four different servers and present one LUN to each.

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

The problem is the four servers are ESX hosts, so I do not think using a file server to present storage will work. Let me know if I am wrong.

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

Does your ESX servers support iSCSI storage?
HP's X1000 storage servers can have the D2700 behind it.

ESX is even mentioned in the quickspecs.

Remember that your bottleneck will most likely be the network between the DL380 and the storage server.

Re: HP Storeageworks D2700 AJ941A

You will need another iSCSI or FC based storage device, for example

P2000:

P4000:

P6000

3PAR StoreServ 7000

It's up to you and your needs.
