Replace all HDDs of a vdisk with HDDs of a bigger size

Good day,

The plan is to replace the HDDs in msa2012fc vdisk with HDDs of a bigger size.  The concern is whether after replacing each HDD one by one and waiting for the volume to resync, the vdisk will sense that it's size is bigger or not. How would be better to do this operation with minimal downtime.

Thanks

Re: Replace all HDDs of a vdisk with HDDs of a bigger size

When you replace a disk with one that is bigger, the vdisk will not use the 'extra' space.  If you replace each disk in this fashion you will have each disk with extra space that cannot be used and in reality have acheived nothing.

If you have free slots, you could add the new disks and create a new vdisk and then migrate data over from the old vdisk to the new vdisk.

if you dont have free slots, then you probably are looking at backing up your data, deleting the vdisk, replacing each disk, create a new vdisk and then restoring the data.
