EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
Hi all,
I'm looking at a customers EVA that has the above problems.
Is there any way to tell which DIMM is failed with COmmand View?
I dont know if the controller has 1 or 2 DIMMs installed.
It shows 2048MB in Total Cache but I cannot see anywhere that says this is 1 x 2GB or 2 x 1GB DIMMs.
Need to get this replaced soon, is there maybe some commandline stuff I can run somehow? (not much experience with EVAs)
Thanks,
Mark...

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
EVA 4400 CTRL havinf 2GB total Memory in each controller, and it contains 2x1GB DIMM modules.
You can find out the DIMM information during POST of controller itself using console cable connected to your system.
Best way is to log a call with HP and get it replaced.

Raj

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
Thanks for that Raj,
Is that the only way to tell which DIMM is faulty? At POST?
Dont really want to restart it as it is a live system.
Also, I dont think it will still be under warranty to raise it with HP...
Thanks,
Mark...

BIST TE 0xB7 - SDRAM Configuration and Policy Memory Test
-- Press CTRL-R to skip long tests --
T01: AMCC440SPe SDRAM Configuration
DIMM Slot 1 = 1024 MB
DIMM Slot 2 = 1024 MB
Total = 2048 MB
most likely if the controller has a problem you cannot see it in command view at all. Consider to involve hp support.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Thanks Torsten,
My customer is just going to replace both DIMMs at once.

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
Update:
This is proving very hard to find from our suppliers.
Does anyone know if it is just the same as other Server RAM or is it something different?
It looks like they are just 1GB DDR2 667 CL5 ECC REG Dimms with a different part number to normal (EVA RAM pn - 466263-001) going by this pic...
Has anyone successfully used an alternative in their controller?
Thanks,
Mark...

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
Further Update:
I've found some almost exactly the same from an old G5 Proliant server.
However it is single rank where the picture in the last link is dual rank.
Will this work?
Thanks again.

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
**almost** the same is critical, sometimes there are really special parts ... but I don't know for sure in this case.
Consider to search for the arrays serial# at http://partsurfer.hp.com and lookup the current spare part.
It says 466263-001.
Partsurfer says this is only used in an EVA.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EVA4400 Soft diagnostic failure and Failed DIMM LED lit up solid amber
Thanks again Torsten,
I'd already found that part number, so that's what I was worried about.
I've managed to source some with exactly the same spec as the picture in the other thread so will try it and report back.
If not, its going to be a long leadtime to order from the US or similar (Im in UK)
Regards,
Mark...
