EVA44000 Support HP 4/8 San Switch

Hi Everyone,

Actually we have 2xHP 4/8 San switches and currently they are working with MSA1500 now we want to acquire EVA4400.

It would like to know whether EVA4400 work with this model of A8000A HP4/8 San switch.

I really appreciate a quick response on that.

Yes, this should work. Just make sure that your firmware is not too old. You can confirm it by crosschecking against this guide:

Just to be more accurate, in the above guide scroll down to Fabric infrastructure rules and check Table 17. You will see supported firmware revisions for all B-series switches.

Yes, it does. You might have to upgrade the switch's firmware to a 'supported' level, though.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the quick response.

One more thing i already have MSA 1500 connected to that switch can EVA4400 co-exist with this configuration?

Re: EVA44000 Support HP 4/8 San Switch

Yes i do have to upgrade the firmware level as per table 17 in the SAN DESIGN GUIDE. But this table17 is only telling you about the supported firmware of the san switch how can i co-relate this to EVA.

I hope am not asking too much :)

Re: EVA44000 Support HP 4/8 San Switch

You can run MSA and EVA in the same fabic, provided that the FC switch zoning is properly set up. I do have a customer who has introduced an EVA4400 to his existing MSA1500cs-based SAN. He is now accessing both arrays from his VMware ESX servers.

Re: EVA44000 Support HP 4/8 San Switch

Hello Fenny,

the SAN design guide describes the SAN concept as a whole. So unless there is any special note under the EVA section in terms of SAN switches, there is no need to correlate these two components (the switch and the array), as they both are supported.
