Hi all,
i hope this question belongs here.
I want to ask if anyone has experience with ORA datafiles on EVA5000,
and what would be the best settings for the DATAFILES to get the most performance out of the EVA.
i.e. Blocksize,Clustering etc
tips ,links and other infos are greatly appreciated
kind regards
Alex

Re: Oracle 10g/11 on EVA5000
Hi!
Hm - we have a lot of Oracle databases running on a lot of EVA's, and don't do that much special stuff.
Blocksize should be 8K, as Oracle also uses. You would like to get as close to raw performance as possible, which makes you want to use some kind of direct IO enabling, or something like that, if your OS/filesystem-type presents these possibilities.

Solution
See Oracle mount options white paper (updated Sep'2010):
http://h71019.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA1-9839ENW.pdf
Few key snippets from the docu:
"With VxFS 5.0 on 11.31, the filesystem no longer needs to have a filesystem block size of 1 KB for efficient direct I/O."
"Beginning with VxFS 5.0.1or higher on HP-UX 11i v3, the concurrent I/O feature is available with the OnlineJFS licenses."
Also check your SCSI queue depth, default is 8, maximum 255.

Sadly im damned to use Windows as an operating system..., and the only thing,i found,on direct I/O was for win NT4.0
