Procurve Manager, Time Out Errors and Device Unreachable via Telnet

I have just had this problem and I have posted the solution, in case it helps anybody else (I couldn't find anything on the forums/manuals).

After installing Procurve Manager we were unable to connect to Procurve switches.

It kept failing with "Time Out Error" while scanning the device (eg when you try and schedule a firmware update).

If you ran the Test Communication Parameters in PCM, it would fail on the Telnet with the following error message "Device Unreachable". This happened on the Manager & Operator logins (Even though the username & passwords were correct, and you could manually telnet to the switches).

It was caused because the default switch configuration was set to Menu (instead of CLI). If you change this back to CLI via the Setup command, it then connects correctly within ProCurve Manager.

They really should add that one to the documentation, I've come across it a few times now.
