11iv3 shutdown log

Hello forum,

How to find why the server shutdown?

The /var/adm/shutdownlog doesn't provide much info.
Is there a log file that shows more details for " Shutdown and reboot" ?

Re: 11iv3 shutdown log

Hi :

Start with the old syslog: '/var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log'

Do you mean that the server was halted and had to be rebooted manually (shutdown -h) or that the server rebooted by itself? If it was manually halted, it may have been shutdown by a root user (and the shutdownlog will show this). Or the server had a power failure and autoreboot was not set. Check the setboot command. shutdownlog cannot not show this condition so you'll have to look at the MP or GSP logs.

Is there an entry in shutdownlog with date the machine was rebooted? The text of that entry will be very useful.

Any info at all? If shutdown manually, you need to tell yourselves to always include a good shutdown message.

Anything in /var/adm/crash/ for that time frame?
Or look at the MP error logs if you think it is a hardware problem.
