Hi,
We have two different applications installed on superdome.
Now, we would like to have separate partitions for these applications and i would like to know :
1. Do we need to install the OS if we want to partitions.
2. Assuming that there is no need to have reinstall the OS, then will there be any impact by this activity in the existing application like should we need to install the applications afresh ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Solution
If you create another partition, the new partition is just like a new server.
Of course this new server (partition) needs own boot disks and OS instance.
You may consider to "clone" the first partition and adjust settings (e.g. hostname, IP, etc.) or do a cold install.
Keep in mind that you will remove I/O resources from the first nPar - this will affect your current configuration.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Applications relocation on Superdome
Hi Torsten,
Thanks for the information.
If my understanding is clear, Usually such partitions or virtualization are managed by a dedicated software like HP Virtual server Environment for Soft partitions and nPartitions for Hard Partitions.
HP's nPartitions will allow dynamic creation and modifications.
However since each nPartition hosts its own operating system instance, applications and users, please let me know if this calls for an application re-installation or is handled by the Superdome management software?
Regards
Gab
