CD made on windows is readable on hpux 11.23, but not hpux 11.31

System is an rx1620, hp-ux 11.31
DVD drive is SCSI, NOT usb:

# ioscan -funC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=======================================================================
disk 0 0/0/2/0.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DV-28E-N
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0
# ll /dev/deviceFileSystem/
total 18
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 544 May 6 12:49 ./
dr-xr-xr-x 39 bin bin 8192 May 6 12:50 ../
crw-rw---- 3 root root 2 0x000000 May 6 12:49 keyboardMux
crw-rw---- 3 root root 4 0x000000 May 6 12:49 mouseMux

Attempting to mount a CD written on a Windows system gets "unrecognized file system".

mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /cdrom
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0: unrecognized file system

The SAME CD is mountable on an rx6600 running 11.23.
The SAME CD is mountable on a pa-Risc running 11.23.

An HP DVD is mountable, and fstype returns "cdfs"

What's missing?

fstyp returns the following for the problem CD:

# fstyp -v /dev/dsk/c0t0d0
cdfs
f_bsize: 2048
f_frsize: 2048
f_blocks: 278898
f_bfree: 0
f_bavail: 0
f_files: 18446744073709551615
f_ffree: 0
f_favail: 0
f_fsid: 520093696
f_basetype: cdfs
f_namemax: 37
f_magic: 0
f_featurebits: 0
f_flag: 0
f_fsindex: 2
f_size: 278898

No, it is IDE!

>> # ll /dev/deviceFileSystem/

The devfs is used with 11.31 AND USB

>> mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /cdrom

Try "-o rr" option.

Hope this helps!

No options tried with the mount worked.

(ok, so it's not SCSI. Main point is that it's not USB, so I didn't want suggestions to try the /dev/deviceFileSystem/Usb..... approach.)

Does this evince anything? Maybe not.

Did you try the "-o rr" option?
(Use Rock Ridge extension to the ISO-9660 file system )

IMHO there are too many options to burn a CD - nobody can count all the possible formats resulting from too many options ...

You may also try "fstyp" against your CD.

Hope this helps!

Re: CD made on windows is readable on hpux 11.23, but not hpux 11.31

1. tried -rr. didn't work.
2. didn't need -rr under 11.23 where the mount worked.
3. Original post shows results of fstyp for problem cd: it returns cdfs.

Re: CD made on windows is readable on hpux 11.23, but not hpux 11.31

Looking at the man pages, I see the difference between the 11.23 and 11.31 is the new daemon called "fsdaemon". The commands that use fsdaemon via specified APIs are fstyp, mount, and mkboot.

Now in this case, the fstyp is working normal but mount is failing for the reason of the "unknown" filesystem.

I would try the followings to see if it help
1. Kill the fsdaemon using
# /sbin/fs/fsdaemon -k
then start it using
# /sbin/fs/fsdaemon -f 1

If this doesn't help, I would run trace on the mount command and contact HP Support.

Shalom,

It would be somewhat helpful to know how the disk was produced in windows. Whats on it, what software package was used.
