GELAN Interfaces Have No Device Files...

I might be being a bit stupid here, but I can't think why I've got two GELAN interfaces which are both claimed, but neither have a device file...

The GELAN driver is loaded into the running kernel.

Here is an ioscan output...

gbdrsu22:/dev # ioscan -fnClan
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
==================================================================
lan 0 0/0/0/0 btlan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
/dev/diag/lan0 /dev/ether0 /dev/lan0
lan 1 0/9/0/0 gelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A4929A PCI 1000Base-T r
lan 2 0/12/0/0 gelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A4929A PCI 1000Base-T r

I tried using insf to create the device files, but this didn't o anything. Am I missing something blatantly obvious?

Thanks - Lee

Re: GELAN Interfaces Have No Device Files...

Lee,
if you are running 11i seems you don't need them.

Re: GELAN Interfaces Have No Device Files...

Back when HP-UX 10 shipped - perhaps 10.20 - HP announced that "LLA" was going away, to be replaced with DLPI as the mechanism to do link-level access to a NIC. The DLPI mechanism in place for HP-UX is one where you open /dev/dlpi and then "attach" to a specified PPA.

Re: GELAN Interfaces Have No Device Files...

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure I've used 11.11 boxes before with gelan interfaces and found that they've had normal lan1, lan2 devices files and so on.

I'll bear this in mind for the future. I also managed to configure them after a bit of messing about, I went for the easy option and used SAM which did it almost too easily.

Thanks
