HP-UX 11i V3 Changing system time

I have a question about changing the system in Unix.  I personally have never had to do this on a unix system, but I recently started working at this place and I noticed that the system time is 18 or so minutes ahead of real time.  I believe that it will be an issue to change the clock with our database running, so I plan on shutting it down for about a half hour so that when it comes up its in the future.  So I guess my question is, is there any other concerns or procedures I should follow in setting the system clock to real time?  For instance my lead programmer is old school unix and think it needs to be in single user mode to change the time.  I know there is a unix command in the MAN file called time and it says it's there to change the system time, so I am just trying to be cautious before I do this..  Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
