HP-UX Vpar configuration help

Hi,

We are having HP-UX PA-RISC Development server with following configuration:--

Model: 9000/800/L3000-8x
Main Memory: 1024 MB
Processors: 1
OS mode: 64 bit
OS version B.11.00 U

We are planning for setting up a virtualization i.e Vpar.. Virtual server environment on same server, I am very new to this VSE so wanted to confirm few points:--

(1) Can we install OS version 11.23 or 11.31 on this server model
(2)Does this model (9000/800/L3000-8x ) support for setting up VSE
(3) Minimum OS version on which we can configure VPAR
(4) Minimum processor , Memory , I/O resources, patch level require on primary node partition.
(5) How many max/min Vpar instances we can configure per primary node partition
(6) Vpar software version compatible to this model.

Attached is ioscan o/p for youe reference.

Also I am looking for any standard documentation to configure Vpar setup, Vpar administration guide and resource allocation.

Thank you always.

Regards,
Subodh B

Re: HP-UX Vpar configuration help

You're confusing two different products. VPars and VSE are not the same thing. VPars will not work in your case because you only have 1 CPU - you would require one for each partition. VSE will not work either because it runs on the Itanium platform and the L3000 is a PA-RISC platform.

Re: HP-UX Vpar configuration help

Hi

1) No. Looks like support for the rp5470 / L3000 stops at 11.11

http://h20338.www2.hp.com/hpux11i/downloads/public_hp-ux_systems_support.pdf

2) The L3000 is not a cell based system. See sx2000, sx1000 chipsets, etc.

3) N/A for this arch., 11.11 for others that are cell based.

4) N/A

5) N/A

6) N/A

Re: HP-UX Vpar configuration help

The rp5470 (aka L3000) works with 11.11 or 11.23 - even with vPars.

1) 11.23 (11.31 doesn't work at all here)

2) supported for vPars

3) 11.11 or 11.23

4) absolutely minimum is 1 CPU and minimum memory depending on OS version

5) 4, because you can have 4 CPU max

6) A.03.x // A.04.x

Hope this helps!

Re: HP-UX Vpar configuration help

Remember, you need also some external disk drives for the other vPars, connected to additional SCSI HBAs.

Hope this helps!
