HPUX Machine Start Automatically
Hi All,
One of our RX Machines which was shutdown, was automatically started, is there any way to check that what would be the cause of automatic starting of machine. The OS is HP-UX 11.31.
Is /rc.log and /syslog.log will have the sufficient info or is there any other log or command that will guide me?
Regards,
F Usmani

Re: HP-UX machine unexpectedly shutdown
(Machines don't automatically start (a good thing). They unexpectedly shutdown (a bad thing).)

Have you looked in /etc/shutdownlog?
Do have a crash dump in /var/adm/crash/?
Have you looked at the MP error logs for other hardware errors?

Re: HP-UX machine unexpectedly shutdown
If the system was shut down, but never powered off then there are a couple of possibilities.
1) Someone connected to the MP and used the 'PS' command to start the server.
2) If power was lost and then restored then the server could have started automatically.

Re: HP-UX machine unexpectedly shutdown
The system was down or off?
Usually after a panic or something, the system will boot again.
It will not remain down in such case.

Not PS, but maybe PE, RS or PC command.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I was thinking of PE or PC.
PS is a status command.

Re: HPUX Machine Start Automatically
Hi Usmani,
You can check the MP logs after logging into GSP , and checks HALT and start logs , you ll have some idea when it was halted and when started.
Btw, what is the model of the server.
Hth,
Raj.
