How to clear "crout" files in /var/spool/cron/tmp

Hi all

/var is filling up because there are some big files in /var/spool/cron/tmp, and these files (crout) have "ftp connection time out" on it. Can I remove those crout files using the "rm" command? Or do I have to investigate which cron entry is causing the ftp message to pop out?

Only after you kill the job.  Otherwise the file won't be removed.

Is the PID encoded in the crout* filename?

That too.
