How to create login with more then 8 characters in HP-UX 11.31

Hi,

We want to create login name with more then 8 characters in our HP-UX 11.31 Servers. Please let me know how can we do this and what are things need to be considered for the same.

You enable long usernames and groupnames by executing "lugadmin -e".
It has a manpage, and I thnk you should read it, certainly the warnings.

I use long usernames since HP-UX 11.23 (that is from 2006 on). Yes, it was possible there too, after installing a patch that is not generally available. Until now, I never encounterd any issues, but our Oracle DB Installation owner has an 8-character username. We also use EMC documentum, and this software is installed with username "documentum" and has never caused any issue. This feature also allowed as a seamless Kerberos or LDAP integration with our accounts in Microsoft AD, which are almost all longer than 8 characters.

My advise : If you need it, enable it. Once enabled, nothing says you really have to use long usernames. You can go on using short names if you encounter any issue.
