How to *install* SNMP?

Hey;

I have a client that wants to start using SNMP.  Lo and behold, it doesn't appear to be installed on three of their five nodes.  That surprisesd me as I thought it got installed by default.  There are *no* /etc/rc.config.d/Snmp* files.  Those files belong to the OVSNMPAgent product.  Is there any place from which I can download that bundle?  I imagine it's on the OS CDs; but, I can well imagine this client not really knowing where their OS DVDs are.  That, and, since it's Saturday night/Sunday, I can't imagine anyone at the client site is even available.

I've checked software.hp.com and, as expected, no joy.

Thanks for any hints/tips/suggestions.

Re: How to *install* SNMP?

It may be easier to install and use the Net-SNMP package.

It is part of the Internet Express pachage.

You can get it for 11.23 here:

and for 11.31 here:

Re: How to *install* SNMP?

Hey

Thanks for the reply. Does that include the core snmp binaries? The client downloaded the depot; but, it looked like it just contained development libraries and some utilities like snmpwalk, etc. I didn't see anything like snmpd.conf or any config files in /etc/rc.config.d...

If that's got everything, it should work; I'm just a bit suspicious...

Thanks again for the reply.

Re: How to *install* SNMP?

I just downloaded and looked at the Net-SNMP for 11iv3.  It looks to me like everything you need should be there.

I also did not see any files for /etc/rc.config.d but there is an EXAMPLE.conf file in /opt/iexpress/net-snmp/etc/EXAMPLE.conf.  I would assume that this should get modified and moved to an appropriate location.
