How to verify if Proftpd is encrpying the transfered files

I have configured Proftpd on 2 HPUX system and use the FTP command to transfer files. In debug mode it does display that it is using Proftpd but I'm looking for a way to verify the file are actually being encrpyted during transport.

Well, you could read the "Trust Me" statement in the documentation or you could use a more standard product such as sftp. The only way to really know for sure is to create a large plaintext file, do your transfer, and grab packets with a tool such as Wireshark (formerly known as the artist "Ethereal").
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Shalom,

tdpdump
wireshark

See if the traffic can be decrypted.

I also agree that using ftp, a protocol that does authentication in clear text is a bad idea to start.

sftp, part of openssh encrypts the data stream and the authentication. It has done this for a very long time and millions of people can testify to this.
