Ignite error
Hi,
One of my HP-UX servers running HP-UX 11.00 is failing in Ignite backup. It throws this error:
I/O error
ERROR: /usr/bin/dd if=/opt/sybase/work/uxinstlf.recovery of=/dev/rmt/1mn
bs=2k failed to write LIF onto tape.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape .
Can any admin tell me what exactly this error means what corrective action I need to take.
Regds

Re: Ignite error
Raj,
can you have a look at:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=212994
Seems mostly to be tape related.

Re: Ignite error
The key is the "I/O error"
This means you either have an issue with the physical media or with the device itself.
Change the tape and see if that helps.
If it still fails, check to make sure that unit is supported on that OS and system model. Also, make sure you have the latest applicable patches at that time.
If it is then have the unit cleaned and retry.
If it's still failing after all of that then it might be bad hardware.

Re: Ignite error
1. is the devicefile correct? /dev/rmt/1m
2. use a new tape
3. test the tape drive (dd/tar...)
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
