Install fujitsu dl6600 on HPUX

Hi!
i've a server with HP-UX itaas1 B.11.23 U ia64 and i want install, via SAM, a fujitsu dl6600, that is share on a windows xp system on lpt3.

i had already add the ip address on my \etc\hosts like this example 172.16.0.121 casti CASTI.

So i had add with SAM the printer, and with the command lp i send a 3kb file but it didn't print.

I repeat the same configuration with a laserjet hp that include a jetdirect and all is ok, print.

so how i can with the dl6600????

Shalom,

Not all printers will work with Unix(HP-UX).

If there are HP-UX drivers for the printer, take them from the vendor and install them on HP-UX.

Your other option is to use a print share device or a windows box with the printer configured for share and have the HP box use the print queue remotely.

Re: Install fujitsu dl6600 on HPUX

The default protocol for accessing shared printers is not the same in HP-UX and Windows.
If you select "Remote printer" in HP-UX, it uses the LPR printing protocol (TCP port 515). If you select "Network printer", it uses HP JetDirect protocol (TCP port 9100).

When configuring HP-UX to print on a printer equipped with JetDirect, the JetDirect protocol is better, but most modern JetDirect modules understand the LPR protocol too.

By default, Windows XP does not understand the printing protocols available in HP-UX. You must install the "Print Services for Unix" component to make XP understand the LPR protocol. As far as I know, there is no way to make XP understand the JetDirect protocol.

- open Control Panel
- go to Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components
- select "Other Network File and Print Services" and click the Details... button. Select "Print Services for Unix", then click OK and Next.

By itself, the above procedure allows Windows XP to talk to printers using Unix-style protocols. In this case, you must then enable XP to listen for Unix-style print requests as a separate action.

- right click on "My Computer", select "Manage..."
- in the "Computer Management" window, go to Services and Applications -> Services
- find a service named "TCP/IP Print Server". Right-click on it, select Properties
- set the Startup Type to "Automatic", then click on "Start", then "OK".

Now all the local printers of the Windows XP machine are available using the LPR print protocol, so you can define "Remote Printer" queues for them in HP-UX.
