MSA500 RHEL 4u4 x86-64 MULTIPATH software

I have a configuration:
2x DL380 G5 (RHEL 4 u4, x86_64)
1x MSA500 with 2 controlers in it.

When I configured disks in MSA, I get everything twice. Do I need MULTIPATH software or can this be done from HP array utility web page?

If I need MULTIPATH software I have a problem, since the software we got is for RHEL3 and i386.

I would really need some assistance here.

Thanks,
Tomaz

Shalom Tomaz,

You don't need multipath here. What it would provide is path to your disk that would tolerate a fault with one of your HBA cards.

If you want to use multipath, you must get the correct version.

Re: MSA500 RHEL 4u4 x86-64 MULTIPATH software

Currently I get this below if I issue fdisk -l

............................
Disk /dev/cciss/c1d0: 257.6 GB, 257698283520 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 61681 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Disk /dev/cciss/c1d0 doesn't contain a valid partition table

Disk /dev/cciss/c1d1: 342.3 GB, 342300571648 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 81930 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Disk /dev/cciss/c1d1 doesn't contain a valid partition table

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d0: 257.6 GB, 257698283520 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 61681 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d0 doesn't contain a valid partition table

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d1: 342.3 GB, 342300571648 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 81930 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d1 doesn't contain a valid partition table
......................................

I created RAID 1+0 configured with HP Array Configuration Utility.
I need two logical drives in linux, but now I need software so that linux will see c1d0 and c2d0 as one device. If I am not mistaken this is what multipath does.

Is this correct?

Re: MSA500 RHEL 4u4 x86-64 MULTIPATH software

Hi Tomaz,

I'm sorry if this has been discussed in some other thread as well. But I'm facing the same issue like you.

Hardware I'm using is

1 HP MSA500 G2

& 2 HP DL380c G5

OS: CentOS5.3 32bit

Disk /dev/cciss/c1d0: 364.1 GB, 364193054720 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 87170 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/cciss/c1d0p1 1 87170 355653584 83 Linux

Disk /dev/cciss/c1d1: 440.4 GB, 440445427712 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 105422 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/cciss/c1d1p1 1 105422 430121744 83 Linux

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d0: 364.1 GB, 364193054720 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 87170 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/cciss/c2d0p1 1 87170 355653584 83 Linux

Disk /dev/cciss/c2d1: 440.4 GB, 440445427712 bytes
255 heads, 32 sectors/track, 105422 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 8160 * 512 = 4177920 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/cciss/c2d1p1 1 105422 430121744 83 Linux

Kindly let me know if you was able to crack it.
