After a fresh install of HP-UX 11.31 from the ISO images, the NIC's have no link.

and what's interesting - the 0/0/0/4 hardware path - both shows connected, and DOESN'T show any of the extra MAC addresses

Re: New HP-UX 11.31 Install NIC's have no link

I can't see the problem?

MACs everywhere except the APA interfaces.

This must be virtual connect. Is there a profile assigned and the NICs connected to appropriate LANs?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Not too sure what you mean?  This is a BL860c I4 blade.  We have the network ran.

I need to configure 3 interfaces.

I have one successfully configured on lan8 (front door IP)

However, I need to configure 3 more interfaces and cannot figure out why the are showing no link.

Any ideas?

Why is link state down?

Re: New HP-UX 11.31 Install NIC's have no link

0/0/0/3 and 0/0/0/4 are mapped to the interconnect bays 1 and 2 of the enclosure.

Yu should check if the virtual connect configuration has a LAN configured for these ports.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: New HP-UX 11.31 Install NIC's have no link

As said, first I would check the VC config from virtual connect manager.

Hope this helps!

Re: New HP-UX 11.31 Install NIC's have no link

I haven't checked this with the i4 blades specifically, but in the x86 world, many new NIC chipsets/drivers will power down the NIC hardware if the interface is not configured, causing the NIC to show no link.

If this is the case, then my first guess would be to run "ifconfig lan0 plumb" and possibly assign it a dummy IP address (e.g. ifconfig lan0 169.254.66.66 netmask 0xffff0000); that should get the NIC powered up.

If you find you'll need to do this to verify physical connectivity, you should probably return the NIC to unconfigured state before configuring the real IP address with SMH, to minimize the chance of SMH becoming confused. The commands for that would be:

ifconfig lan0 0.0.0.0
ifconfig lan0 unplumb
