QLogic qla2xxx & RHEL4.6

Hi there,

we've connected a ML350 with RHEL4.6 with HP FC1242SR (QLogic qla2xxx-Driver) over both ports to our SAN. We presented some LUNs to the server, but they seem only to be accessible over one path:

[root@apxl0010 hp_fibreutils]# ./hp_rescan -a
Sending rescan signal to /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/0...
Sending rescan signal to /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/1...
Adding legacy tape devices to /proc/scsi/device_info
Scanning /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/0, target 1, LUN 0
Scanning /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/1, target 2, LUN 0

scsi0 00 00 00 HP HSV210 5000 RAID
scsi0 00 00 01 HP HSV210 5000 Direct-Access
scsi0 00 00 02 HP HSV210 5000 Direct-Access
scsi0 00 00 03 HP HSV210 5000 Direct-Access
scsi0 00 01 00 HP HSV210 5000 RAID
scsi1 00 00 00 HP HSV210 5000 RAID
scsi1 00 02 00 HP HSV210 5000 RAID

The multipath-module therefore only sees one way for each LUN too, of course:

[root@apxl0010 hp_fibreutils]# multipath -l -v2
mpath2 (3600508b4000744ce0000f00000f70000)
[size=501 GB][features="1 queue_if_no_path"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:3 sdc 8:32 [active]

mpath1 (3600508b4000744ce0000f00000f20000)
[size=501 GB][features="1 queue_if_no_path"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:2 sdb 8:16 [active]

mpath0 (3600508b4000744ce0000f00000e10000)
[size=501 GB][features="1 queue_if_no_path"][hwhandler="0"]
\_ round-robin 0 [active]
\_ 0:0:0:1 sda 8:0 [active]

Anybody got some idea regarding this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: QLogic qla2xxx & RHEL4.6

Most likely the LUNs were presented to the WWID of the first HBA only, or the FibreChannel zoning is not correct.

Double-check your SAN configuration, and remember that each HBA has its own WWID.

It seems that you are using EVA storage.

When you created the host, where you able to select both HBAs from the drop down list of the host definition in Command View?.

If you did selected from the drop down list your two HBAs for the host, then is correct, ensure that both are "online" at the switch.

If you don't see both HBAs, you should check your zoning configuration on the switch.

Sometimes, a sudden reboot is needed.

Thanks to you both. This was a little bit strange... multipath works although only one path is visible when performing hp_rescan. The volumes are still accessible, even when we are cutting one of the connections, no matter which one. You can see in the server logfile, that the driver detects the disconnection.

Re: QLogic qla2xxx & RHEL4.6

I suspect you have the driver based multipathing enabled. It can be disabled with
# /opt/hp/src/hp_qla2x00src/set_parm -s
