Updating Name field in GECOS

I have reviewed the man pages for the CHFN command and it appears that there is no way to pass the update data to the command other than just calling the command and being prompted for the data. Is there any other way of mass updating the Name field in the GECOS?

...other than simply editing the information in the /etc/passwd file...

As root:

usermod -c "GECOS info" username
--
