Upgrade from 11.00 - 11.23 on N4000 RISC

All,

Does someone have the information on performing a cold install of 11.23 on a PARISC/N4000 A3639B..
We are upgrading OS and Informix.

I have 256 HPPI queues, 709 users in /etc/passwd

Need to get a basic understand of the cold install process and restoring those OS items that work how best to restore access to the system with recreating users, print queues and such.

Any recommendations, threads or docs appreciates. I recall seeing a thread from one of the Gurus like Steven Protter, Clay Stephenson, Patrick Wallek, James F or Bill Hassell that pretty well outline the process but can't seem to find it?

As it sits my considerations are as follows:

Any suggestions or insight appreciated.

1. Check Firmware (for support of 11.23) --- I spoke with Doug Terry and we will need to perform a firmware upgrade, he indicated it will only take about a ┬╜ hour.
2. Extend Filesystem /usr 5gb /opt 5gb
3. Perform and Verify Backups and Archives
4. Cold install of HP/UX - 11.23 (or 11.11) depending on 4JS/Genero compiler requirement
5. Patch OS to current Patch Level тАУ Determine Patch level, apply and reboot as necessary
6. Install Open Source (as defined by DBVENDOR)
7. Restore Files, printers and Users
ITEMS OF CONCERN:
Cron Jobs
тАЬrootтАЭ
тАЬinformixтАЭ
тАЬsupportтАЭ

HP/UX Print Queues (246 physical queues)
HPPI тАУ spooler
3rd party junk, (Xerox, Toshiba, Ricoh, etc, etc)
EZ Spooler (33 physical queues)

User Home Directories
/home/backup (backup logs)
/home/district
тАЬiid.txtтАЭ files (required for menu scripting )
Critical system files тАУ (/etc/passwd, /etc/hosts, (etc, etc)

DB VENDOR CONCERNS:
8. Cold Install Informix 10.00.fc5xf
9. Configure Instance and dbspaces
10. Import from data
11 install genero / recompile
12. install optio / recompile
13. install /restore ezspool
14. Verify OS printers
15. test software

Shalom,

You probably need firmware update before proceeding.

server Doc.

Important to make sure all the software is certified for the OS.

N Class is certified for the OS.

Its go mission if all the apps will work.

Thanks for that info Steven.

I will review the requirements.

I do know we need to do a firmware upgrade. I've spoke with our FE about it and will schedule him prior to do the install.

I think my big question how to perform the cold install and then recover items such as printers, users, etc without a bunch of manual entry.

Shalom,

Users you can migrate. Its easier to do if teh system is not trusted.

Many of the individul /etc files will work, some won't there will be dome debugging there.

OS printer configuration, I have high hopes. I work with printers very seldom now however.

Don't do the whole /etc/passwd file, just the user section.

Steven,

is there a way to "untrust" a trusted system?
